Third Party Liability
(Section A)

Mandatory

Provides coverage when you are responsible for an automobile accident:

  • That results in property damage, or
  • That results in injury or death

By law, you must have at least $200,000 in third party liability coverage, but most people choose $1 million or $2 million.

Collision or Upset
(Section B2)

Required if your vehicle is leased or purchased with financing

Protects you against damage caused to your vehicle if:

  • You have an at-fault accident
  • Your car hits an object
  • Your car rolls over

Comprehensive
(Section B3)

Required if your vehicle is leased or purchased with financing

Protects you against loss or damage to your vehicle that is beyond your control, other than collision or upset, such as:

  • Theft
  • Vandalism
  • Fire
  • Earthquakes
  • Wind storms
  • Floods
  • Hail
  • Lightning
  • Explosions
  • Missiles, flying or falling objects
  • Riots or disturbances of the peace

Accident Benefits

Mandatory

Provides coverage for:

  • Medical, rehabilitation and funeral expenses
  • Death and loss of income benefits

You can increase your Accident Benefits coverage with:

  • Optional income replacement benefits
  • Optional medical, rehabilitation and attendant care benefits

Uninsured Automobile Coverage

Mandatory

Protects you in the event of an accident caused by an uninsured driver. For example:

  • If you are injured or lose your life because of an uninsured motorist or a hit-and-run driver.

Covers damage to and loss of use of the insured automobile and its contents, when an accident is caused by an identified, uninsured motorist.

Family Protection
(Endorsement 44R)

Recommended

Provides additional protection for eligible claimants in the event of injury or death caused by an underinsured motorist.

  • The coverage is the difference between your Family Protection limit, as per the terms of your policy, and the liability insurance limits of the other at-fault driver.

Example: Robert was involved in an automobile accident that caused $800,000 in damages. John, the driver responsible for the accident, was covered up to $500,000. Fortunately, Robert had added $1,000,000 in Family Protection coverage to his policy, which covered the $300,000 difference between the damages and the at-fault driver’s coverage.

Direct Compensation Property Damage (DCPD)

Mandatory

This coverage protects you against damage to your vehicle in the event of an accident that is not or is only partially your fault. This coverage allows you to deal directly with your own insurer. This means you call us directly no matter who's at fault.

  • Because this coverage is mandatory, it’s automatically included in the calculation of your insurance premium.
